main summer hazards Heat

July 12, 2023

The second post in the series of summer dangers is about HEAT.

The biggest misconception is that a dog without hair cannot overheat in the sun.

Xolo, just like all other dogs, can suffer from heat stroke.

The first symptoms are:

-lethargy

-glazed eyes

-rapid breathing

-very high body temperature (40-41 degrees Celsius), - redness of the gums.

In this condition, Xolo needs urgent veterinary care, so it is important to cool him down in advance, without waiting for further overheating. It is best to put a wet, cold towel on the abdomen and head. Give him plenty of water to drink.

Bring the dog into a cold room, or into the shade if there is no such room.

What to do to avoid heat stroke?

My best life hacks are:

1. Put a mini-pool in the yard or at least a basin of water. It will be fun

😊

2. Walk early in the morning and late in the evening when it is cooler.

3. For long walks, take water with you, you can chill it in a thermos.

4.Xolo loves various vegetables and you can treat her to chilled summer treats with a high water content - cucumbers, cabbage, zucchini, watermelon, etc.

5. For very hot days, you can buy a cooling vest to help your dog regulate his body temperature and prevent heat stroke.

And attention!

NEVER leave your dog in the car. Ever. Even if the windows are open and only for five minutes.

At an air temperature of 28°, within 10 minutes in the car, the temperature rises to 41°, and in half an hour it reaches 48°.

I've made a lot of recommendations, but believe me, you need to remember them all!
